The Museum of the College of the Immaculate

The Museum, together with the church, the Patio de los Naranjos and the Closing, formed the nucleus of the old school more meaningful.

When the College reopened in 1862, initiating the Order its apostolic and educational, is restored to the Jesuits of their property called "Church and Convent of Mercy," which consists of a set of colonial buildings that were in bad condition.

So in 1863 "... we worked on the oldest now existing, or the bedroom on Lopez Street, which starts from the angle same way the transept of the church, and below this room, whose length should be about thirty or more feet, formed a study room "and in these areas, the last vestiges of the early College years later he would install the Museum.

The Rector P. Maussión Louis in 1981 proposed to the Alumni Association of the creation of the Museum of the College in the classrooms behind the sacristy, conforming to the Church, the Patio de los Naranjos and the Closing, the most significant core of the old College, "... the oldest existing in Argentina ...".

With the objectives to "preserve, display and disseminate the work of evangelization and education in the Jesuit community in Santa Fe" is solemnly opened on August 14, 1982, in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the reinstatement of the Jesuits in Santa Fe and the reopening of the College.

With an area of ​​about 400 m2 on two floors, is developed in four rooms erected in two stages. The initial construction is attached to it in the first decade of the twentieth century two rooms on the second floor, occupying the top level of the sacristy and vestry. Other than these, the rest of the building has walls about three feet wide, made with materials and technique similar to the rest of the Jesuit complex, forming a unique unity of buildings.

The austere facade of the Republican Period Museum and from the street Confederal General Lopez enters the Patio of the cistern, where a wrought iron gate design allows access to the beautiful Patio de los Naranjos.

The upstairs lounge is the biggest area of ​​architectural value, having a gable roof structure with wood trusses and French tile roof, while the remaining two rooms upstairs and subsequent construction, make a provision "U" area surrounding the altar and chancel.

Its rooms display elements such as sacred monstrance, chalices, missals, liturgical vestments, reliquaries, imagery, etc.. In his other exhibit spaces, instruments and items of all kinds belonging to the ancient physical and chemical cabinets, used for years by students who performed pioneering experiments of its kind.

By virtue of its historical, symbolic and heritage, the Museum of the College of the Immaculate Conception is Provincial Historic Landmark since 1994, and has been declared a National Historic Landmark in 2000 .
